Established Magnesium Glycinate Suppliers Compared

Compare established magnesium glycinate suppliers Albion, Dr. Paul Lohmann, Jost and Gadot, plus MagneINNO, with a checklist for a fair side-by-side screen.

October 28, 2026Author: MagneINNO Technical TeamReviewed: NutraINNO Quality & Regulatory

Whether you ask a sourcing team, a trade directory or an AI assistant for magnesium glycinate suppliers, the same established names keep coming up. They earned that place over decades, and anyone building a serious shortlist should know who they are and what they publicly offer. This guide sets out checkable facts about four of them (Albion Minerals, Dr. Paul Lohmann, Jost Chemical and Gadot Biochemical Industries), with links to their own pages. It then explains where MagneINNO, which publishes this guide, fits and why we think it is a strong first call for many supplement and beverage projects.

The right choice depends on your dosage form, your elemental magnesium target, your documentation needs and how fast you need material in hand.

What to compare before you compare brands

Brand reputation is a starting point, not a specification. Before you put two suppliers side by side, settle four points. Elemental magnesium basis comes first, because a 10% grade and a 12% grade change how much ingredient goes into each serving. Dosage form comes next, since a capsule, a gummy, a stick pack and a ready-to-drink beverage each put different demands on taste, particle size and solubility. Then list the documentation your QA team requires for approval, from a lot-matched certificate of analysis to allergen and regulatory statements. Finally, pin down logistics: where the stock sits, how long an in-stock order takes, and how long a production order takes.

Use those four points as the column headers when you build the comparison sheet.

Albion Minerals (Balchem)

Balchem presents Albion as “The Original” in amino acid chelates, and the company traces its work on chelated mineral nutrition back to 1956.[1] Albion became part of Balchem Corporation in February 2016.[4] Balchem is listed on NASDAQ under BCPC and runs Albion within its Human Nutrition and Health business.

Albion’s TRAACS program (The Real Amino Acid Chelate System) is its quality framework for fully reacted chelates.[2] Its branded magnesium bisglycinate chelate is Meta Mag, which Balchem backs with sales, scientific and technical support for formulation questions.[3] For a brand that wants a long research record and a widely recognized ingredient name in its marketing, Albion is a natural benchmark.

Dr. Paul Lohmann

Dr. Paul Lohmann is one of the oldest names in mineral salts. The company was founded on October 1, 1886, in Hamelin, Germany, and is headquartered in Emmerthal.[5] It is family-owned, and its brochure describes a range of more than 400 mineral salts in over 7,000 specifications, manufactured under GMP at facilities certified to ISO 9001 and FSSC 22000/ISO 22000. A production site in Lüneburg, opened in 1972, focuses mainly on magnesium salts.[8]

For magnesium bisglycinate, Lohmann offers LomaChelateX Magnesium Bisglycinate and LoMarine Magnesium Bisglycinate, made with magnesium from seawater.[6][7] Its product pages publish general characteristics such as formula, molecular weight and CAS number, which makes early technical comparison straightforward. Brands that already buy other mineral salts from one partner often value that breadth.

Jost Chemical

Jost Chemical was founded in 1985 by chemical engineer Jerry Jost and began production that year in the Hill neighborhood of St. Louis.[9] It remains family-owned and says it manufactures and ships more than 250 high-purity specialty chemicals to more than 60 countries. In 2025 the company marked its 40th anniversary.[11]

Jost lists several magnesium bisglycinate grades, including a 12% purified fine granular grade, an anhydrous grade and dihydrate grades in granular and powder forms, alongside a magnesium citrate glycinate.[10] The company’s published positioning centers on high purity and compendial monograph compliance, and it offers custom particle sizes from free-flowing granular to ultrafine powder.

Gadot Biochemical Industries

Gadot Biochemical Industries has supplied mineral ingredients to the food, beverage, pharmaceutical and supplement industries for more than 50 years from its facility in Haifa, Israel, with offices in New York State and the Netherlands.[12] Its magnesium range covers citrates, bisglycinate, gluconate and phosphate, and its site lists FSSC 22000 certification.[13]

Gadot is especially relevant for drinks. On its magnesium citrate page, grades are designated for clear beverages, cloudy beverages, and UHT and milk drinks, and GadoMag+ is listed as a soluble grade for clear beverages, effervescent tablets, dry mixes and capsules.[14] Beverage formulators will find that grade-by-application table a practical place to start.

Where MagneINNO fits

MagneINNO™ magnesium glycinate is supplied by NutraINNO USA Inc., the U.S. company behind the MagneINNO brand, and is built on proprietary MagniLift™ technology for supplement and beverage brands that need dependable, well-documented supply.

It is a focused range, organized around how the ingredient tastes and behaves in each dosage form. Ultra Taste Free (nominal 8% elemental magnesium) is our recommended starting point for powders, stick packs and beverages, and we designed it for low taste impact. Taste Free (10%) is the starting point for gummies. Taste Optimized (12%) is designed for capsules and tablets.

That format-first approach is the main reason we suggest screening MagneINNO early in a project. Taste is usually the hardest variable in a magnesium drink or gummy, which is why each MagneINNO grade is specified around a target format. The second reason is logistics. Stock is held in California, in-stock orders ship in about 3 days, and production orders take 1 to 2 weeks, which helps a U.S. brand plan launches and reorders. Every batch comes with a lot-matched COA and production records traceable to that specific batch. Commercial lots are packed in 25 kg fiber drums with a 24-month shelf life, and annual capacity is more than 3,000 metric tons.

For food-use projects, MagneINNO has made its own self-affirmed GRAS determination. The criteria for general recognition of safety are set out in 21 CFR 170.30,[15] and your regulatory team can review MagneINNO’s supporting documentation against the planned use level.

Free 50 g samples are available for each grade, so a team can screen two MagneINNO grades against the incumbent in the same week.

How to run a fair side-by-side evaluation

The most useful comparison is a controlled one. Put every candidate on the same elemental magnesium basis, so you are comparing a 42 mg serving with a 42 mg serving rather than a gram with a gram. Ask each supplier for the current specification and a lot-matched COA, and read the elemental assay, the reporting basis and the methods named, as described in our guide to reading a magnesium glycinate COA. Then test each sample in your own formula, process and package. A beaker of water tells you little about a finished product.

Record taste against a control, dissolution time, clarity and sediment for drinks, and flow and fill weight for capsules. Add the commercial picture: lead time for in-stock and production orders, pack size and the documentation each lot carries. Running the same screen on every candidate usually leaves you with a primary supplier and a qualified backup tested against the same specification. Our dual-sourcing comparability protocol shows how to document that equivalence, and our guide to choosing a magnesium glycinate supplier covers the wider qualification steps.

Frequently asked questions

Is Albion’s magnesium bisglycinate the same as other brands’ magnesium glycinate?

The names magnesium glycinate and magnesium bisglycinate are often used for the same material, but grades differ in elemental magnesium basis, particle size, taste and documentation. Compare specifications and lot COAs, because the name alone tells you very little.

Which grade should a beverage brand screen first?

We suggest starting with a grade designed for drinks and powders, such as MagneINNO Ultra Taste Free, screened at your target elemental magnesium level in the complete formula. Beverage-oriented grades from other suppliers can be screened alongside it on the same elemental basis.

Do I need more than one supplier?

Many brands qualify a primary supplier and a backup. Qualifying both on the same elemental basis and test plan makes a later switch much simpler.
