Formulation worksheet

Elemental magnesium calculator

Convert an elemental magnesium target into ingredient mass, or check the elemental magnesium supplied by an ingredient amount.

Enter elemental magnesium or ingredient mass according to the direction above.

Use the actual specification or lot COA. The initial 12% value is an example, not a lot-specific result.

Only used for dry-basis calculation. Confirm whether the reported result uses moisture or a specified loss-on-drying basis.

Calculated result

833.3333 mg

ingredient mass required (0.8333 g)

Effective as-is assay: 12%

100 mg ÷ (12 ÷ 100) = 833.3333 mg

No moisture adjustment is applied to an as-is assay.

A mass-balance estimate for formulation work. It does not recommend a serving size, account for processing losses, or establish regulatory label compliance.

Check the basis before using the result

  • Ingredient mass and elemental magnesium mass are different quantities. A 12% assay means 12 mg elemental magnesium per 100 mg ingredient on the stated basis.
  • For an as-is assay, use the reported value directly. Do not subtract moisture again.
  • For a dry-basis assay, this tool estimates as-is assay as dry-basis assay × (1 − moisture fraction). Verify the supplier’s definition and analytical method before applying the adjustment.
  • Mixtures, processing overages, fill-weight tolerances, stability losses, and finished-product assay require separate assessment.

Example: at an as-is assay of 12%, 100 mg elemental magnesium requires about 833.33 mg ingredient. This is an arithmetic example, not a recommended dose.
